Abstract

This article aims to enlighten the meanings attributed to journalism and the discursive ethos of the brazilian newspaper O Globo in its campaign that fights against fake news. The research is based on bibliographic research and discourse analysis, which guide the mapping of meanings, the identification of the subjects and the voices of the utterances, as well as the crossing of discourses of journalistic and advertising content linked to the campaign. As a result, it was observed that the O Globo newspaper seeks to reinforce the belief in the role of journalism through the image of authority to verify information. In this way, the fake news phenomenon is used to align the newspaper’s ethos to the new environment of mediatized society and to self legitimize with its audiences.
