Using the economic growth model of Lanza and Pigliaru (1994) as a starting point, thispaper introduces and analyzes the effect of heterogeneity of the endowments of tourist resourceson the choice between total specialization in higher or lower‑qualitytourism. Fromthis assumption it immediately follows that economies with reduced resource endowmentsare unable to offer high quality tourism products, while those with high endowments areunlikely to offer low quality tourist products. It is concluded that the levels of economicdevelopment achieved in the long run will be all the greater the higher the quality of thetourism products offered.
