The credibility of a character is related, in a complex way, to the compositional strategies used by the authors as they build up their fictions. The aim of this study is the scrutiny of how characters are delineated when related to the travel motif and which types of characters this connection produces.
The figurative diversity of travelling characters in some literary works of Lídia Jorge, Hélia Correia and António Tabucchi (such as Walter Dias, Lillias Fraser and Xavier) will be analyzed, and the elements in their construction will be investigated, with the purpose of interpreting their meanings within the fictional world they inhabit.
