This text addresses the relations amongst time, memory and poetry, in the books Dizes-me coisas amargas como os frutos, written by the Angolan poet Paula Tavares; Boitempo, written by the Brazilian poet Carlos Drummond de Andrade; and some Afro-Brazilian poets who published Cadernos Negros. It aims to demonstrate how the exploration of the language and the memories of the past appears within these authors’ poetics as constituent processes of the critical rethinking of their own identities and cultural roots.
