In Paulina Chiziane ’s fiction two aspects of Mozambique´s, cultural traditions are recurrent: the lobolo and polygamy. The first one is defended as necessary, especially in the rural zones, while the second is rejected and questioned, mainly within the female universe. This reading intends to problematize the ways these traditional practices are represented in this African novelist´s fiction.
