AS PALAVRAS DELA ERAM ESTRANGEIRAS MESMO DITAS NA MESMA LÍNGUA. TIPOLOGÍA, ANÁLISIS E INTERPRETACIÓN DE LA FIGURA DEL EXTRANJERO EN LA OBRA DE MIA COUTO

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to analyze the figure of the foreigner in the set of the work of the Mozambican writer Mia Couto because in his work “the other”, the one that comes from the outside, is a constant presence that gets to adopt the profile of a character type, identifiable through identical behaviors in similar situations. We make an approach to the different types of the foreigner analyzing his specificity. We suggest an interpretation of this “omnipresent foreigner”, because most of the times it’s someone completely out of the African reality not only because for him it’s an unknown reality but also because it hardly will be understood. So, his interpretation of the African culture is based on his own culture placing himself in a monocultural level through which he reaches the culture of the other from a peripheral and superficial perspective. Finally and consequently we present Mia Couto’s work like an inestimable intercultural and pedagogical resource because it contributes to develop, in the reader, the necessary sensibility to establish a relationship between his culture and the culture of the other.
