The process of independence in Brazil was marked by a wide dissemination of liberal and Enlightenment ideas from the debate of ideas and disputes between political groups. Through newspapers, books, pamphlets and other printed matter, in addition to the occupation of public spaces and popular demonstrations, from 1820 onwards there was a growing appreciation of values such as the separation of powers, the representative system and the constitutional government. However, in the year 1823 a pamphlet was published in which, in addition to criticisms of the Enlightenment, the representative system and the separation of powers were questioned and even criticized. This article intends to analyze this print to try to understand its arguments and better elucidate some elements of the year it was published, as well as, from a linguistic contextualist approach, to relate its ideas and its repercussions with the society in which it circulated.
