Abstract

Under the label «Portugal and the European culture» in the 20thcentury, it carried out an essay into the history of scientific culture played as scientific Congress, Natural History Museums and Collections. Artur Jorge Ricardo (1886-1972), naturalist and director of the Lisbon Bocage Museum assumes in this study the role of the leading actor to follow the Portuguese debate on Natural History Museum’s role into science policy, into the laboratory research and its relationship with scientific education. A case study that confirms the research agenda of the history of scientific and cultural practices on the Portuguese participation in international networks for the exchange and circulation of knowledge, in this case Naturalists / Zoology, during the period of the Estado Novo (New State).
