Portuguese in France during may-june 1968

Abstract

In May-June 1968, when the largest and longest general strike in France took place, nearly 300,000 Portuguese people lived in France. These events destabilize this population, the vast majority of whom have been arriving for less than four years. This article aims to analyse the different reactions of the Portuguese population in France, which cannot be considered as a monolith. It is also a question of grasping the action carried out by Portuguese political exiles in France, an action that is both articulated in an internationalist conception of politics but which is also specifically directed against the Portuguese dictatorship.
