In addition to her literary works, Natália Correia was known for her political and cultural activities during the Estado Novo. In the late 1940s, she began to participate in organisations opposed to the regime by contributing manifestos and other political documents alongside other antifascist intellectuals. As a member of the Movimento de Unidade Democrática (MUD), she supported the presidential candidacy of Norton de Matos (1949) and then those or Arlindo Vicente and Humberto Delgado (1958). Towards the end of the 1960s she took part in de CEUD (Comissão eleitoral de Unidade Democrática)’s campaign. Despite constant PIDE surveillance, Natália Correia was a great personality, free of social conventions, controversial, yet firm political stance.
