This work explores ways of subjectively experiencing exile in its political and linguistic dimensions. By definition, the spatial distancing suffered by the exile produces the sudden breakdown of affective ties with the homeland, in addition to a forced immersion in a culture other than his own. Starting from the assumption that it considers the conflicts between the subjective experience and the culture, it is necessary to explore senses of the exile as a sociological category that exposes the condition of the individual through the dramas of detachment and the inadequacy. Then the work goes through aspects of the tension between the desire to return to the place of origin and the irreversible character of time from Central European writers of the 20th century. Finally, I verify the theoretical yield of the demarcated conceptual course, observing possibilities of dialogues with different fields of social sciences.
