I do not have an essentially positive image of my history course, from 1960 to 1966, the year in which I defended my degree thesis, as I have already said in a book, História... Que História? published by Temas e Debates in 2015. Our science was then seen in a "narrativist" and "eventful" way. The subjects that stimulated my critical reflection - learnt in high school with Alberto Martins de Carvalho - I sought them out, in particular, in Philosophy and the History of Culture, where teachers of different conceptions, coming from other areas, taught: Sílvio Lima (in 1935 dismissed by Salazar, but who was able to return in the 1940s), who reflected, in his unforgettable lessons, on the principles of the theory of History
