Abstract

Continuous teacher training in Portugal met with a decisive push, with the creation of School Association Training Centres (CFAE) in the nineties. While during the first stage, adult training was kept apart from the organizational problems, with the sprouting of these centres we witnessed a link between training situations and work situations, where the tuition is recognized as a productive investment and serving a project of change. However, these centres, which are hostages of a financial identity, with no capacity to vary the funding sources, have been walking a tightrope, more or less generous, which has conditioned their assertion and autonomy. It is certain that in a time of uncertainties in relation to the future of the education in our country, like the one we are now living, training shouldn’t be separated from the anxieties that the teachers have but rather, they should take on an essential role in the schools’organizational development.
