Abstract

The aim of the study was the analysis of the difficulties faced by physical education preservice teachers regarding planning, particularly the construction of their annual class plan, its restructuring and coordination with learning stage’s plans. A focus group was formed comprising four preservice teachers, students in their last year of the master's degree in physical education having similar initial training, who taught in different schools in Lisbon. The interview was analysed and categorized in 3 parts: difficulties of preservice teachers, construction of the annual class plan and coordination between the annual class plan and the stage plans. The results show that all preservice teachers had difficulties with planning and the assessment of their students’ performance. We conclude that the lack of guidelines for the construction of the PAT, that were published or, alternatively,
previously taught to preservice teachers, suggests gaps in initial teacher training.
