Abstract

Teacher training in the area of ICT is recognized as a critical factor for the integration of ICT in school contexts. Based on international models and on Portuguese programs and projects – from the Minerva Project to the new Technological Plan for Education – this paper presents some reflections about the challenges for teacher training in ICT. The international and national frameworks discussed in this paper are the basis for the development of a set of guidelines and of a conceptual model of teacher training in the area of ICT. The guidelines of this conceptual model emphasize constructivist theories of learning, meaningful learning contexts, collaborative activities, formative and qualitative assessment, as well as the importance of research.
