Abstract

Observing is a fundamental process that does not have an end in itself, but that it is subordinated to the service of the individuals and their complex processes of attributing intelligibility to reality, providing the necessary empirical data to further critical analyses. To start observing implies the organization of a project, in order to become fulfilled with the knowledge of the reality one refers to (Estrela, 1992). Despite the importance of the positioning in co-territoriality, for the initiates in classes’ observation, the technique of naturalistic observation is more accessible and practical. This is defined by four principles: the non selectivity of the observation; the precision of the situation; the composition; and the continuity (Estrela, 1986, p. 49). Therefore, initiation training to classes’ observation corresponds mainly to an observer training, where there is a contingent plan to the diverse intervening variables in pedagogical situations.
