Abstract

The changes that have occurred in the regulation of public policies in education have repercussions on the legislation regarding the education and training of adults, towards the decentralization of powers, territorialisation and valorization of the place. The strategies inherent to the process of Recognition, Validation and Certification of Competencies observe these principles by valorizing the locally built learning, in a serious commitment to the adults. This paper presents the results obtained by means of a questionnaire concerning the participation of a group of adults from the New Opportunities Centre of the Secondary School of Jaime Cortesão in the Project "Cultural Habits, Other Audiences, Other Opportunities", resulting from a joint work between that centre and the Academic Theatre of Gil Vicente. The data collected allowed the conclusion that adults learn more when they are engaged in meaningful activities and locally constructed, which is consistent with the assumptions underlying the designation of "Educating City".
