A comparative analysis of perception of theme the topic natural disaster in Brazil and Portugal through big data tools

Abstract

This article performs a comparative analysis of the perception and social interest in the theme topic of natural disasters in Brazil and Portugal, using big data search tools. For this analysis, data were collected from general and scientific publications over a period of 10 years (between 2012 and 2022), using online search tools on the subject of natural disasters and isolated keywords related to biological, geophysical, climatological, hydrological, and meteorological disasters. The results enabled a comparison ofmade it possible to compare social interest and scientific publications related to these events. In Brazil, the greatest search for the theme of natural disasters occurs in January 2019, and in Portugal this search peak occurred in July 2016. The use of search tools to analysze the production and search for relevant information on online platforms proved to be valid and opportune to for carrying out a comparative analysis of the social perception between the two countries.
