We intend to offer a re-reading of the Epistle to the Colossians 3, 20, taking as a point of departure the cultural construct honour-shame. In this paper we describe the impact that these anthropological values have on daily life, personal relationships, and the obligation of children to honour their parents. Our objective is to offer a biblical and contextual understanding of children’s obedience towards their parents. Furthermore, we believe that approaching the text from the perspective of cultural anthropology enriches the reading and interpretation of the Epistle to the Colossians and the mandate of obedience.
