Pleasure and duty – two mainstays of human existence – have been thought about since the beginning of civilisation. In its eclectic approach to philosophy, Renaissance Humanism reopened the debate on the subject of human happiness, where utilitas and uoluptas were seen as complementary, rather than as opposites.
