Abstract

This paper focuses on the Goddess Persephone in the epigraphic funerary documentation and the famed lamellae aureae. Chronologically, this study is limited to the fourth century, just the moment when the Goddess first appears in the epitaphs and also the moment of the first lamellae dating. In these texts the Queen of the Underworld is a fundamental figure, surpassing the limits of her usual mythical roles: daughter of Demeter, wife of Hades. I suggest also a comparison with the pinakes of Locri, a documentation slightly earlier.
