This study analyzes the approach and function of the classic myths in the novel Oficio de tinieblas 5 by Camilo Jose Cela. In this novel, myths serve to conect a glorious past with a vile present. They represent the death‑life‑death cycle. This cyclical sequence is conditioned by love. All mythical stories are shown into an ironic, ancestral and protean framework.
