Both consumer protection and the right to an ecologically balanced environment are founded on the principle of human dignity, as established by the 1988 Federal Constitution. Thus, the defense of life with dignity aligns with the pursuit of a sustainable production and consumption economy, which takes into account the need for dematerialization, aiming to use fewer natural resources, with lower energy expenditure and material loss, generating less waste. This text analyzes the evolution of consumption, consumption patterns in contemporary society, as well as waste prevention and consumer information as ways to contribute to the desirable sustainable consumption.
