Biografia Autor

John D. Mock, CLP, Universidade de Coimbra (Programa de Doutoramento em Materialidades da Literatura)

John D. Mock é licenciado em Inglês pela Universidade de Indiana (Bloomington, 1988), com uma Honors Thesis intitulada “Shared Tendencies and Intentions: Examining Hardy and Hawthorne Together”. Passou um ano (1986-1987) na Universidade de Kent em Canterbury, na Inglaterra, onde estudou teatro e Thomas Hardy. Obteve o grau de Mestre em Inglês, pela Universidade de Maryland (College Park, 1991), com uma tese intitulada “Hemingway’s Orpheus: Influence and Affluence in In Our Time”. Entre 1988 e 1991, ensinou na Universidade de Maryland em College Park. Em Portugal, leccionou na Universidade Católica de Portugal (Leiria) durante cinco anos. Lecciona na Universidade de Coimbra desde 1998. John D. Mock interessa-se particularmente pelos Clássicos, pela Literatura Fantástica e de Ficção Científica, e pela literatura norte-americana produzida entre 1920 e 1960. Interessa-se também por Cultura Popular. O seu projeto de tese intitula-se «The Electronic Body in Time and Space, or, Cyberpunk Is Dead: Long Live Cyberpunk».

John D. Mock has his BA in English from Indiana University (Bloomington, 1988), where the title of his Honors Thesis was “Shared Tendencies and Intentions: Examining Hardy and Hawthorne Together”. He spent one year of study (1986-1987) at the University of Kent at Canterbury, England, where he studied theater and Thomas Hardy. His MA in English, from the University of Maryland (College Park, 1991), included a thesis that was titled “Hemingway’s Orpheus: Influence and Affluence in In Our Time”. From 1988-1991, John taught at the University of Maryland at College Park. In Portugal, he taught at Catholic University of Portugal (Leiria) for five years. Since 1998, he has taught at the University of Coimbra. John D. Mock has always had an interest in the Classics, in Fantasy and Science Fiction, and in the American Literature that was produced in the 1920s and 1960s. He also is interested in Popular Culture. The title of his thesis project is «The Electronic Body in Time and Space, or, Cyberpunk Is Dead: Long Live Cyberpunk».
