Resumo

A partir de um conceito amplo de materialidades, percorrem-se alguns aspetos da modernidade vienense com vista a pôr em relevo dimensões da prática da escrita que oferecem paralelismos relevantes com a obra de Fernando Pessoa.

Abstract
Using a broad notion of materialities, the article touches upon some aspects of Viennese modernity with the aim of highlighting several dimensions of the practice of writing that offer relevant parallels to the work of Fernando Pessoa.

Biografia Autor

António Sousa Ribeiro, Centro de Estudos Sociais, Universidade de Coimbra

António Sousa Ribeiro é professor catedrático da secção de Estudos Germanísticos do Departamento de Línguas, Literaturas e Culturas da Faculdade de Letras e investigador sénior do Centro de Estudos Sociais da Universidade de Coimbra. Foi coordenador do programa de doutoramento «Estudos Avançados em Materialidades da Literatura» (2010-2012), e é co-coordenador dos programas de doutoramento em «Pós-colonialismos e Cidadania Global» (CES/FEUC), "Linguagens e Heterodoxias" (FLUC) e "Culturas e Literaturas Modernas" (FLUC). Foi presidente do Conselho Científico da FLUC (2000-2002), director do Departamento de Línguas, Literaturas e Culturas (2009-2011), presidente do Conselho Científico do CES (2003-2007) e responsável pela Revista Crítica de Ciências Sociais entre 1991 e 2008. É actualmente coordenador da direcção do CES. Tem publicado extensamente sobre temas relacionados com as literaturas e culturas de expressão alemã, a literatura comparada, a estética e a teoria literária, os estudos culturais, a sociologia da cultura e os estudos pós-coloniais. Tem-se dedicado também à tradução literária.

António Sousa Ribeiro is Professor in the German Studies Section of the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures and a senior researcher at the Centre for Social Studies (CES), University of Coimbra.  He was coordinator of the Ph.D. Program «Advanced Studies in the Materialities of Literature» (2010-2012), and is coordinator of the Ph.D. Programs «Post-colonialisms and Global Citizenship» (CES/FEUC), "Languages and Heterodoxies" (FLUC) and "Modern Cultures and Literatures" (FLUC). He was president of the Scientific Council of the Faculty of Arts (2000-2002), chair of the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures (2009-2011), president of the CES Scientific Council (2003-2007), and general editor of the Revista Crítica de Ciências Sociais between 1991 and 2008. He is currently the coordinator of the board of directors of CES. He has published widely on issues related to literatures and cultures of German language, comparative literature, aesthetics and literary theory, cultural studies, sociology of culture, and post-colonial studies. He is also a literary translator.
