This paper discusses two poetic insertions in D. Duardos Segundo, a Portuguese romance of chivalry by Diogo Fernandes, first published in 1587: an ode by Camões (“Já a calma nos deixou”) and a poem by Fernão Rodrigues Lobo, known as Soropita (“A Casa da Lembrança”). In addition to being published before their authors' editions, the versions of these pieces contained in D. Duardos Segundo exhibit numerous significant variants that warrant analysis. Therefore, based on the transcription of the two compositions as presented in the 1587 book, this study aims to compare the texts with the versions established by their later tradition. The conclusions emphasize the importance of the versions found in D. Duardos Segundo, which help clarify ambiguous passages and facilitate the development of new hypotheses regarding the transmission of these poems.
