This study focuses on Alexandre Pinheiro Torres, a Portuguese academic and writer who associated with the leading writers of his time and corresponded with them. The article explores his vast correspondence, now housed in the National Library of Portugal, with figures such as Jorge de Sena, José Cardoso Pires, and Eduardo Lourenço. These unpublished letters reveal their shared connections, literary controversies—like the famous dispute with Vergílio Ferreira over Rumor Branco—and the hardships of exile. Through the analysis of this unpublished correspondence, the study portrays a complete writer who lived intensely for literature, grappling with the Portuguese literary scene and deeply valuing the recognition of his peers.
