The Humanities are being dramatically threatened by an economicist approach to the University. One suggests the recognition of the lusophone area as the strategic field of national identity and the international connection to countries which are historically linked to Portugal. It has become necessary to redefine that area, giving it a patriotic grasp, both through the defense of the Portuguese language and the so called lusophone cultures, and through the defense of teachers’ intervention and participation. One suggests a theoretical and practical innovation: that the literary texts translated from other languages be considered lusophone and, therefore, may be integrated in all sectors and levels of teaching of the lusophone world, allowing the widespread of those activities. On the other hand, it is also necessary to attempt to conceive other teaching practices, such as, for example, transforming the transmission of scientific contents into a doing-thinking approach to literature and culture as practices and interconnected reflections.
