Before the Conferências do Casino, the Geração de 70 devised other projects within Lisbon’s literary circle the Cenáculo. From philosophical, literary and musical discussions, two ground-breaking plans emerged, which would have different artistic outcomes: an extravagant and long forgotten opera draft, a satire to the state of Portugal then – A Morte do Diabo – and a satanic fictional poet – Carlos Fradique Mendes.
