The correspondence between Ruben A. and Miguel Torga, from 1949 to 1973, shows two antagonistic personalities united by a literary space. Avid readers of each other’s work, Ruben A. strives for the internationalization of the writer his generation worshiped and makes reference to Miguel Torga in his autobiography, while Torga highlights the novelty of Ruben A.’s cosmopolitanism and is enthralled by his creativity. In terms of literary reception and sociology, this dialogical relationship illustrates the difficulties, misunderstandings, censorship, fascination and innovation of two decades of the Portuguese literary universe.
