This article aims to focus on the character of the protagonist of O Mistério da Estrada de Sintra, seeking to analyze the reasons and processes of singularization of this character. In fact, Luísa, Countess of W., is the first and only female fictional character who is empowered by Eça with self-diegetic and self-critical abilities. These capacities endow this character with a proper, yet perhaps excessively, Queirosian ideology and style.
