Abstract

This presentation focuses on the novel Os Maias by Eça de Queirós, and it depicts the rhetorical and discourse procedures that the author uses in the figuration of such characters as Maria Eduarda and Maria Monforte. The analysis also reviews some important studies. In fact, it intends to be the first one of a series of analysis on women figuration in the fictional works of Eça de Queirós, as part of a broader research project.
