“Focalization and character” discusses the problem of narrative focalization based on recent theoretical contributions that review the established concept by Gérard Genette, expanding their bases and conceptual boundaries. Such a review allows us to rethink the perspective as one of the facets of figuration of character, and also facilitates the approach of the complex, ambiguous and heterogeneous forms, as prevalent in contemporary narrative. We use this theoretical understanding to analyze Fado Alexandrino (1983), by António Lobo Antunes. This narrative presents a variety of voices and point of views in a multifaceted perspective structure, but not always effectively polyphonic.
