In this essay, we intend to describe Juliana, her profile, based on the book written by Eça de Queirós, and her survival in the Brazilian film O Primo Basílio, directed in 2007 by Daniel Filho, with Euclydes Marinho’s script. Something tells us that Juliana’s profile (re)created by the film’s production is different from what we saw in Eça’s book, because much of her history was omitted in the film; or because Euclydes Marinho changed Juliana’s composition (her physical aspects or her actions). This essay will analyse Juliana’s character based on Antonio Candido’s ideas about the character of the Novel, and her survival in the film based on Paulo Emilio Sales Gomes’s ideas about the characters of the Films.
