Abstract

The essay discusses two major axes in area of African studies: the Eurocentrist and the Afrocentrist. Permeating many different periods of the 20th century, the two lines contributed to the emergence of a certain perception and constitution of a canon of African criticism. Within this context, the innovative character of the postcolonial studies is presented.
