Abstract

The development of the gender studies enabled the specific investigation of hegemonic and subordinate masculinities, highlighting the relationship between the exercise of masculinity and power. Bourgeois society emphasized masculinity according to the identity of European national states and, therefore, built paradigms that represented in their national literatures. Given the contemporary crisis of gender identities, the Angolan author João Melo, at the dawn of the twenty-first century, recognize the state of crisis experienced by masculinities that continually refuse the pre-determinations approaching gender and power.

Author Biography

Mário César Lugarinho, Universidade de São Paulo

Professor Associado da Universidade de São Paulo na área de Literaturas Africanas de Língua Portuguesa. Desde 2001, detém bolsa de produtividade em pesquisa (nível 2) do CNPq. Possui graduação em Letras (1988) e especialização em Teoria Literária (1989) pela Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro, mestrado (1993) e doutorado (1997) em Letras pela Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro. Fez estágio de pós-doutoramento na Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (2002), prestou concurso de Livre-docência, para a área de Literaturas Africanas de Língua Portuguesa, na Faculdade de Filosofia, Letras e Ciências Humanas da USP (2012) e encontra-se em estágio de pós-doutoramento no Centro de Estudos Comparatistas da Universidade de Lisboa. Foi Professor Associado da Universidade Federal Fluminense, nas áreas de Literatura Portuguesa e Literaturas Africanas de Língua Portuguesa (1994-2007). Com outros pesquisadores, fundou em junho de 2001 a Associação Brasileira de Estudos da Homocultura (ABEH). Publicou três livros (Portuga, Brasil), vários artigos em revistas especializadas e capítulos de livros, no Brasil e no Exterior. Possui experiência na área de Letras, com ênfase em Literaturas Africanas de Língua Portuguesa e Literatura Portuguesa, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: Estudos Comparados de Literaturas de Língua Portuguesa, Estudos Pós-coloniais, Estudos Culturais e Estudos "queer.
