Writing and Echo: The Metaliterary Dimension of Vuitanta-Sis Contes (1999), by Quim Monzó

Abstract

This paper aims to evaluate the metaliterary dimension of Vuitanta-Sis Contes (1999), work of the Catalan writer Quim Monzó (b. 1952) that compiles the five short story books published by the author until 1999. In ths sense, we seek to ascertain the – frequently satirical, parodic and ironic – form as such short stories thematize literature in the double prism of the creation and reception of the literary work, as well as the various topics and resources in which the self-reflexive vocation of the Monzonian fiction is revealed.

Author Biography

Helena Costa Carvalho, Universidade de Lisboa, Faculdade de Letras, CLEPUL

Licenciada em Filosofia (Univ. Coimbra, 2005), pós-graduada em Poética e Hermenêutica (Univ. Coimbra, 2006) e mestre em Filosofia (Univ. Lisboa, 2013), com uma dissertação intitulada “Filosofia e Literatura: o sentido e a medida de uma relação possível em Maurice Blanchot e Paul Ricoeur”. Desde 2017, é bolseira de doutoramento da FCT – Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, preparando uma tese em Estudos Portugueses sobre a obra de António Ramos Rosa (Univ. Lisboa). É investigadora não doutorada integrada do CLEPUL- FLUL, centro que acolhe a sua investigação. As suas principais áreas de investigação são a filosofia da literatura, a hermenêutica e a literatura contemporânea, interessando-lhe sobretudo as questões da relação filosofia-literatura e do estatuto ontológico do texto literário.
