Within the scope of the project Regimi alimentari, cibo e cultura materiale nelle grandi dittature, taking place at the Università degli Studi Internazionale di Roma, it is intended to study food during periods of dictatorial regime. This paper uses, in particular, the literary texts of Irene Lisboa (1892-1958) to understand the difficulties of the less wealthy, during the Estado Novo in Portugal, seen in the writing of an author who, not infrequently, uses an autobiographical discourse. The confrontation with other sources and the evaluation of literature as a source for history were also the object of reflection.
