Gabriela Mistral was one of the world's literary figures who led the most intense wandering life. While the Portuguese period of those wanderings around the world is little known, this article seeks to illuminate the period from 1935 to 1937, particularly her inclusion in the 'Cultural Embassy of 1935'. Contrary to the usual undervaluation of the importance of this stage, we discover that it ultimately left profound marks on Gabriela Mistral's life, namely through her spiritual encounter with Miguel de Unamuno and the consolidation of her diplomatic career. Mistral's time in the city and at the University of Coimbra is also discussed.
