Author Biography

Abel Barros Baptista, ELAB, New University of Lisbon

Abel Barros Baptista is Professor at the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences (FCSH), New University of Lisbon, where he teaches primarily Brazilian Literature. He is the author of several books. Particular mention should be made of his work on Camilo Castelo Branco, and of his studies on Machado de Assis, published in Brazil by the university press of Unicamp. His books include Coligação de Avulsos. Ensaios de Crítica Literária (Lisboa, 2003), Ensaios Facetos (Lisboa, 2004) and O Livro Agreste (São Paulo, 2005). He was the general editor of the series Curso Breve de Literatura Brasileira [Brief Course on Brazilian Literature], a collection of 14 volumes published by Edições Cotovia (2005/2006). He has edited Amor de Perdição: Uma Revisão (2009), in the series ‘ReVisões’, published by Angelus Novus, for which he had also edited A Cidade e as Serras. Uma Revisão (2001). At FCSH, he started a Laboratory of Advanced Literary Studies (Elab), in which one of the research lines is devoted to the materialities of literature.
