Abstract

In this interview, Eduardo Kac tells us about his "laboratory" and bioart or transgenic art, the art of telepresence, and holopoetry. He explains how it works and how the performative ethics materially explores the relationship between body and language. Kac reflects on subjects such as transgression, authorship and ecology, and informs us about his opinion the artistic production scenario in the context of the Arts, Media and Digital Culture in Brazil and Portugal.

Author Biography

Manaíra Aires Athayde, CLP, University of Coimbra (Doctoral Program in Materialities of Literature, CAPES Research Fellow)

Manaíra Aires Athayde holds a Communication Science (Journalism) degree from the University of Porto (PT) and has complementary training in the Faculty of Fine Arts and History of Art Program from the same institution. She attended the first three periods of the graduation at the Federal University of Alagoas (BR) and has a specialization in History of Contemporary Art from Senac (BR). In 2010, she participated in the exchange program of the EPeKa/The Scientific and Research Association for Art, Cultural-Educational Programmers and Technology, in Maribor, Slovenia, on an improvement course in Multimedia Journalism and Radio. She is editor of the magazine Trends/Architecture and Design (BR) and collaborator of the Fest Magazine (PT), where she covers film festivals, music, and literature. She worked as writer for Journalism Porto Net and as editor for Academic Newspaper of Porto. She directed the short film Belo (2010, PT), with the support of UP Media, and was director of photography of the short film IAPOIS (2007, BR), which received an award from the BNB Program of Culture. In 2009, Manaíra Athayde coordinated the Art Galleries JUP, and in 2010/2011 she directed the Art Gallery at Espaço Anémona, part of the Miguel Bombarda Circuit, in Porto, where she organized exchange projects between Brazil and Portugal. In the publishing house 7 Dias 6 Noites, she developed a project for Luso-Brazilian collections. Manaíra Athayde has conducted research in Contemporary Art, Aesthetics of Communication, Applied Peircean Semiotics, Modernity and Post-Modernity, Media Culture. Currently, her investigations are focused on Portuguese and Brazilian Poetry, with interfaces between Literary Studies, Art Studies, and Communication.
