Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

Author Guidelines

1. Submission of articles and recensions / book reviews

The articles and recensions submitted for publication must be originals and in accordance with the editorial standards adopted by the review. They will be object of anonymous peer review. The whole process is carried out in accordance with the Code of Ethics Guide to good practice for jornals editors of the University of Coimbra (Editorial policies).

Publication of articles

3. Text format and length
3.1. Articles in Portuguese, English, French or Spanish,  are accepted.

3.2. The title, abstract and keywords must be presented in the language in which the article is written, and in Portuguese and English, when these are not the languages used in the article.The article should include an abstract in Portuguese and English (c. 150-200 words) and a list of up to 5 keywords.
3.3.The text in total can not exceed 7000 words (including notes and bibliography).

3.4.  The author’s name, followed by the institutional affiliation, email and ID Orcid should appear after the title, aligned to the right.

3.5 The author has the responsibility to obtain permission to publish the article and the images subject (when its use is justified) to copyright. 

3.6.Text Formatting

Titles

The title should be in bold, in small capitals, center aligned, font Times New Roman, size 14 points.

The titles of the sections and subsections should be in bold, font Times New Roman, size 12 points.

Main text
Font: Times New Roman
Size: 12
Spacing: 1,5
Alignement: justified
Increase of 1cm in the first line of each paragraph.

Notes/Epigraphs
a) Notes are formatted as footnotes. Footnotes should be presented in font Times New Roman, size 10, single space, by sequential numbering order.
b) Footnote callouts must appear before punctuation.
c) Whenever the author needs to make inner references, he/she should use the latin full expressions (cf. supra, cf. infra).
d) Epigraphs should be presented in italics, font Times New Roman, size 10, with the name of the author. The reference to the book is optional. 

4. Bibliography

4.1. Quotes must be presented between curly quotation marks (“ ”), unless if exceeding three lines.

4.2. The long quotations  should be highlighted by one space, using an 11 points font, followed by the reference to the work quoted in abbreviated form. These quotations,  should not be presented between curly quotation marks . A line should be left before and after the main text. 

4.3. Square brackets [ ] should be used to indicate interpolations.

4.4. Ellipsis should be indicated within curly brackets (...).

4.5. In the main text the title of the publications should appear in italics and the title of the articles into quotation marks.

4.6. The final bibliography must include only the authors and his/her quoted oeuvres. 

4.7. References will always be made in the main text, in abbreviated form using  curved parentheses with the author's name, date of publication and, if applicable, page number. In the case of an indirect quotation, these indications shall be preceded by the word apud.

4.8 Examples: 

One author: (Bourdieu, 2005: 221).

Two authors: (Bessière and Pageaux, 1999).

Three or more authors: (Laborinho et al., 1999).

Indirect quotation: (apud Moura, 1999:75)

4.9. Final bibliography should be included at the end of the article, font Times New Roman, seize 11, with the title "References".

4.10. The publisher and the edition used should always be indicated. The date of the first edition may also be indicated, if deemed relevant. These indications should come at the end of the reference, in square brackets. In the case of translations, the name of the translator should always be indicated.

5. Publication of recensions / book reviews

The work under recension/ review must be identified according to the model used in the bibliography, adding the number of pages and ISBN.

Recensions / Book reviews must not exceed 9 000 characters with spaces. Recensions should not have footnotes.

 

6. Proofreading
Authors will have to correct the typographic proofs corresponding to their articles. Corrections in the paper approved for publication should not be so deep that they alter the expression of thought and the primitive sense of the article.
