‘Literature and (other) Arts’ suggests that authors and texts included in the survey of national literature that currently constitutes the Portuguese syllabus in Secondary Education should be studied in relation to other forms of expression of human creativity and experience. Focusing on the privileged dialogue of poetry with painting, this article proposes a methodology of literary reading in schools that leads students to interpret lines by Camões, Cesário and Pessoa along with the observation and analysis of visual works by Renaissance artists, Impressionists, and Modernists, respectively.
