EÇA DE QUEIRÓS IN THE SECTION “ENTREVISTA” ( INTERVIEWS) OF THE JORNAL DE LETRAS, ARTES E IDEIAS, LISBON

Abstract

This article presents the results of a critical-analytical study of the texts published in the “Entrevista” section about Eça de Queirós, between 1981 and 2011, in the Jornal de Letras, Artes e Ideias _JL_ in Lisbon, verifying how the JL interviews are a source documentary for the history, biography and criticism of the Portuguese author. To carry out the research, visits were made to two reference centers: Centro de Documentação e Apoio à Pesquisa (CEDAP), Universidade Estadual Paulista, Assis, and Sala de Materiais Especiais, “Florestan Fernandes” Library, Universidade de São Paulo. After collecting, cataloging and analyzing the interviews about Eça de Queirós in JL, observing the frequency, variations in the content of criticisms with the change in the staff (critics, writers, researchers) and socio-political-cultural context, we noticed that in the 30 years in the Lisbon newspaper, it was possible to observe the dialogue between the publications about Eça no JL with the most renowned critics about Eça, in order to prove the value of the texts of this periodical, observing how they continue the critical tradition about the Portuguese author or break in relation to what has already been produced about Eça.
