History of women, women and work, women and business, documentation from the Misericórdias, Portugal, 18th centuryAbstract
Based on two testaments and a division of an inheritance as our main study source, this paper seeks to analyse a business woman's activity in the first half of the 18th century.
Besides aiming at providing insight on female economic activities, the paper underlines the - not very explored - potentials of the archives of the Misericórdias welfare institution, in other fields besides the history of institutions, poverty and aid.
