The author analyses and publishes a rare archival inventory from the convent of S. Francisco (Santarém), from around 1411. He examines the issue of the knowledge available regarding Portuguese Medieval archival practice and expands on the interpretation of the historical meaning of this documental inventory in order to explain the organisational know-how of an archive in an important mendicant religious community of these times.
