This paper proposes to establish a historical account of royal feasts and ceremonies during the period of the dual monarchy in Portugal (1580-1640), highlighting particularly the fields which were covered by previously published researches, their perspectives of approach and connection with the main assessment trends of this subject in international historiography.
This incursion is not limited to the ceremonies in the King's court. It also covers ceremonial analysis as a tool for political communication (of power) both in the seigniorial houses (the House of Bragança), and in the Church (through the solemn entries of bishops in their dioceses).
