This paper presents an analysis of the concepts of woman and the feminine in the sports field contained in the first sports magazines in Chile at the beginning of the 20th century. In a context of expansion of feminist thought and the leading participation of women in various modern sports, the magazines showed positions that overlapped positions of residual and change elements. On the one hand, references to traditional roles were included and, on the other, the image of a modern woman was outlined. It is proposed that sport contributed to promoting new ideas about women, with a view to a change of era marked by liberal and feminist discourses.
