Abstract

The article, based mainly on the personal papers of governor Maia Magalhães, shows some important facets of Macao’s administration in 1925-1926. We can see as the concerns with the colonial government were interrupted by the actions, with some difficulties to implement and subjected to the ministerial instability in Portugal. Besides that, in the colony, the action of the governor was not easy in the confrontation with different groups and interests, that pressed in the way of their political or personal intentions. In the specific context of Macao, the Chinese community occupied an important position and this governor was concerned with the good relationship with it.
