The COVID-19 pandemic has led to unprecedented changes and effects on educational institutions. Higher education institutions had to quickly develop the transition from face to face teaching to remote teaching. This study aimed at investigating the perceptions of Higher Education students about online teaching and learning during the second semester of 2019/2020 (n = 2718). Data were collected through an online survey sent to the students via their unions. Although positive aspects have been identified, the perceptions of the participants point to a rather negative picture. This is to be related to different institutional responses but also to individual adaptation processes. Findings also show that the participation in self and peer assessment has decreased and that students prefer a combination of face to face and remote teaching in future scenarios.
